Monk strap shoes can fade in and out of the mainstream but, to us, the single monk strap is one of the most timeless and underrated dress shoes available. Naturally, we chose Alden's mocha kid suede style as our go-to. Kid suede is known for its immediate softness and flexibility making it ideal for footwear in general but in our case, it was a logical choice for instant comfort and versatility. Made on Alden's iconic Aberdeen last (same as their tassel loafer) we find this shoe to be more refined and dressy than a loafer but a subtle stylistic upgrade from lace-ups. We like to wear them mostly with tailored clothing as a go-to dress shoe for more formal occasions like dark suits and dress trousers. However, as they get better with age, they can work well with denim and tailoring as well.
